Post subject: | Short story of our 1963 Dart |
We have previously owned a 1966 Imperial(AKA-- mopariusmaximus). When we returned to the mountains, the decision was that it was just too much car for these mountain roads, so we are now owners of the 1963 Dart. If anyone wants to see mopariusmaximus go to the Imperial Mailing List-Online Car club. Look for Clark Thomas's 1966 Imperial and read and look over the story of that car. We don't really think cars have personality, but that one really did seem to have one. Anyway, he(Mopariusmax) is living large somewhere in Finland last time we heard. This Dart seems to come with a different persona, although one would expect it to be so. We just haven't had enough time yet to find out what his car view of the world is yet. After 50 years and very few miles of travel(~ 7000), he needs to be exposed to the 2013 era of travel so we will see how this goes soon.... |

Thanks for the followup, wjajr. I've done some things already since I got the car in August. The first was replacing the factory original 6.50x13 bias belted tires that were on the car. There was plenty of tread left( since the total mileage was only 6850 miles), but I didn't want to drive very far on 50 year old tires. Also, decided to replace the belts, the alternator and the water pump for the same sort of reason--- too long sitting. The brake system looks very good, so haven't done anything there yet. The cooling system was done over by the previous owner who had the radiator flushed and that seems to be doing fine so far. The gas tank doesn't seem to have very much rust based on the small amount of rust particles in the fuel filter. The car had some minor scrape along the drivers side from in the center of the door , and someone many years ago had repainted that and done a rather crappy job, so I had the local body guy do that over and he matched the paint almost perfect and did a super job with the finish. Also, am now installing a Pertronix EI system. Not done there , yet. Oh, forgot to mention replaced the Holly 1920 carb with a reconditioned one. More later.. Clark |
