Hi all - Could use some guidance on this. I'm not a newbie any more but I'm not as much of an expert as you all are! I have a 1964 Dodge Town Wagon D100, with a three-on-the-tree shifter. It's been running great until a few days ago, when the weather here in Austin started to cool down (it's in the 60s-70s vs 90s last week). Here are the symptoms, all related to the clutch, although I'm not certain they are all related to each other: 1) The master cylinder leaks from the lid. It's not full, it's about 3/4 full, but we're seeing fluid ooze from the top without pushing the clutch pedal. If the engine is on and rumbling, the fluid is coming out. I thought it was leaking from below, but we saw it in action yesterday. My strategy on this has been to keep filling it up. 2) In first and usually second gear, I've started to hear a clacking sound upon accelaration. I don't hear it when I'm not accelerating. The sound is not there in third gear. 3) As of the past copule of days, it's gridning when shifting from first to second. All other shifting is fine. I thought I was just revving the engine too fast when shifting, but it's happening regardless of RPM. Other things to note: - The pedal free travel seems to be in line with factory specs, according to the manual. - Clutch was replaced by a local garage about 4000 miles ago. - Slave cylinder was replaced about 3000 miles ago. - I've driven it about 2000 miles in the last year - that's more action than it has seen in 30 years. I'd really appreciate any guidance you can provide! Jon |
