Post subject: | 1976 Aspen Torsion Bar Bushings |
Hello Guys, I've got my 76 aspen at a mechanic for a front suspension rebuild. Well the front torsion bar pivot bushings need to be replaced. The issue is that the bushing is welded inside a metal case. In order to get to the bushing to replace it, the case need to be drilled at the tach weld spots. The mechanic is 100% sure that these casings will be destroyed in the process. I've searched the internet but am unable to find the bushings and the casing for sale and in stock. The bushings I can get from polybushing but I need the casing as well. Rockauto says they have them but when you add them to your cart, it informs you that they are no longer available. Napa says they have them but you have to call a local store. I called my local store and they said they'd have to call up their parts food chain to see if anyone actually has them. I'm waiting on this. Does anyone know where else I might be able to buy these? Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Brandon |

It appears Firm Feel has a solution (http://www.firmfeel.com/torsionb_fmj.htm), but the web site doesn't have pictures or other details. They are helpful folks so I wouldn't hesitate to call. |

Thank you! I'm not sure why feel firm didn't pop up in my google searches. At first I saw the $650 price tag and my heart hit the floor but than I re-read it this morning and feel a lot better now that I see that's for the entire torsion bar, bushings and casing only $110 (still a hit but at least I can sleep at night). I sent them an e-mail since they're not open yet. Hopefully they have over night shipping! Thank you for your help! Brandon |

These guys have everything you need: http://www.springsnthings.com/index.htm. I don't have the manuals with me where I am now, if I had I would send you a copy of chapter on bushing replacement, but you are supposed to open the metal casing to change the bushing. Here is an overhaul session of the Aspen/Volare front end, with pictures, it is popular with Ford F100 owners. http://www.customclassictrucks.com/tech ... _frontend/ Olaf |
