I need some specific information related to the A535 conversion. I've read here and in other places of people doing this swap and the success they have had, however there is missing information for the 'next guy'. I have the A535 trans but I need to figure out what bell housing is used. I have a 10 and an 11 inch and neither one are close. I have read that there is one out there that has two holes that line up with two more that need to be added. The only bell housing that I have not been able to test fit is the 84-87 truck housing, is this the one I need?

The other question I have input shaft length. The length on the A535 is about an inch shorter that the 3 speed that I took out of the truck. My measurements indicate that it will engage the pilot hole in the crank shaft but not by much. Or is the needed bell housing going to fix this issue?

Once I get that taken care of I'll have another set of questions, but first things first. Thanks for the help.

The bellhousing I used was out of a 1984 truck 833OD, but I am not aware that it is unique or special. Hopefully there are other tranny gurus here who can confirm or deny.

The input shaft did engage the pilot - not as much, as you observe, but enough. Your results may vary, but mine ran for 3-4 years that way.

To make up for the shorter input shaft you can use a late model Dodge Dakota pilot bearing as it sits in the crank pocket instead of the bore like the normal pilot bushing (giving you back another 3/4-1").
