Post subject: | Dutra Duals |
I'm working on a 1976 D100 (3.90 and a 5 speed) and would like to put in Dutra Duals in. I did find them at Laysons.com for $535 plus a core. Are they worth it? This is not a race truck, I like the idea of duals and it might help give it a little more power. Laysons mentions that there is a clearance issue with 80's A/C, just what I was hoping to add (better compressor). Has anyone dealt with this and if so how bad was it? I think I know what bracket needs to modified but I'm not sure. Thanks. -Micah |

Why go to Layson's when you can PM Doc (Doug Dutra) here on the board and get them direct? Hopefully a truck guy will chime in about the fitment with the A/C. -D.Idiot |

In addition to working directly with Doug Dutra, you would do well contacting CharrlieS on this forum. He can probably give A/C compressor advice. I installed Dutra Duals on my '66 Dart slant six. I had to build one simple bracket from the rear of the compressor mount to the left engine mount. It was a simple build just to clear the front Dutra exhaust manifold runner. I suspect you could use the original truck A/C compressor bracket and just make a new rear brace. Don't try to leave that brace out as the main compressor mount may wiggle around and work-harden the steel. That rear bracket is important. Jerry in Denver |
