Post subject: | Torsion Bar Question |
Why is there a left and right torsion bar; what's different between them? |

Direction of spring rate, it makes sense once you install them and wind up the adjusters. |

Post subject: | Torsion Bar Question |
Does a torsion bar have a direction during installation (a front and a rear)? |

Not for a functional purpose, no. The part number (or last 3 digits of it) are only stamped on one end though so its often mounted so that can be seen from the rear socket for future reference. |

I had a couple from a 1974 that were XAL 790/791 bars that were stamped on both ends for some reason (probably the XAL facility got paranoid).....but you are correct functionally they can be flipped end for end as long as they are on the correct side of the car. -D.Idiot |

Is one side slightly stiffer than the other to take into account that the weight of the Slant Six is more on one side than the other? |

No. The driver offsets the engine weight also, but the springs are the same from side-to-side. 1.04" and larger torsion bars have only 1 part number (no left/right) as the indexing is the same. |
