Hello everyone,

Last time I posted I was moving from Banning to Thousand Oaks for a job opportunity and was trying to sell my Dart. Well I never did sell the dart, I am letting a friend drive it around torrance and LA since I was not sure I had somewhere to put it.

Well the new job in Malibu is fantastic. All is well there. Found a great apartment in Thousand Oaks till we can save some more to start looking for houses. My house in banning finally just sold and I got a little money out of it.

What am I doing with that money you ask? Well I just found the worlds nicest 68 Barracuda and agreed to purchase it. Taking cash and picking her up tomorrow. Here are some shots of it.

California Car, rebuilt 225 less than 200 miles ago, rebuilt transmission. Convertible. Everything is new and works. Fresh paint, which looked fantastic. Only thing is the chrome hasn't been redone, but it doesn't look bad either. Not missing any badging. Really nice job done. Guy knew what he had and wouldn't budge on his asking price, so i gladly paid it. Only thing missing is electronic ignition, which I can do myself no problem.

After I pick it up I'll use my nice camera and take some real glamour shots.

I'd dicker a little on the price, your pic already shows that he failed to install the trunk plug in the pan per factory...who knows how many other plugs are missing (under the carpet, behind/under the seats)...hopefully the rear center panel doesn't have any dents in it (that kills price fast on top condition cars). Also note that the Barracuda was considered a top end car and many powertrain/hard part items swap with the other A-bodies fine, but many chrome and cockpit items are hard to replace or are expensive (start stashing items in your attic from swap meets).

Looks like a sold car, hopefully the price isn't over $8000.

Unfortunately it was a few more than 8, but I haven't seen an a-body barracuda around here go across in a long while, and the ones I've gone and looked at were around 8 and they were leaking and falling apart. May just be the California market, but even things like ebay motors I see cars going for more than I paid, so I'm happy with what I paid.

This car is turn key, everything works, and everything is new. Hell when I got under it, even the leaf springs looked new.

I think it is beautiful. I also think we need, as a community, to embrace the fact that even the slant six cars are going up in value. Crater, you should feel good about your purchase.. If the paint is as good as it looks thats worth 5k alone. Rebuilt engine would add 2-3k. Convertibles are the most desirable collector cars.

Welcome back!

Sam

Thanks! I am very happy with it. NADA(for what its worth) actually rates the average retail value at $16,740, which is several pittances higher than I'm paying, so that makes me feel happy as well.

Took delivery this morning. Drove her and a co-worker up and down PCH(love working in malibu) a bit to really let it stretch its legs. Running great as expected from previous visit.

Only negative is no power steering, which I failed to notice previously. Brakes work great. Top is down and its a gorgeous day out. I still feel like I got a bargain. Makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

I quite agree.....nice ride. To my eye, the A-body Barracudas are the best-looking cars as a convertible, bar none. (and the A-body Chevelles from '68-'72 are the ugliest).

BTW.....you're in SoCal....what are you doing wearing a jacket? (pic four in your second set) It's warm there, and I'm freezing my 'nads off out here in Iowa today!

I'm a SoCal weenie, if its below 70 its hoodie weather! I had actually just driven it home with the top down from Malibu where I work, so I was right on the water, which does get pretty chilly.

Funny story, Car was running a bit rich (a lot rich) and I leaned it way out (As i turned it out the Idle jumped up, so much gas was bogging it down). This made me worry a bit about whoever had set up everything else so I drove out with my girlfriend to our storage unit from when we moved and dug for my timing light.

Had to borrow some nail polish from the girlfriend to mark the timing mark. Started it up, plugged the vac advance, timing was perfect. Thought it ironic that they probably went through more trouble making sure the timing was correct but couldn't simply adjust the carb.

Added an electric choke this weekend. 1 day shipping since i could throw a rock and hit burbank. That made a huge difference. I don't think the old thermal choke was opening all the way.
