Going to be doing the GM HEI conversion soon. What do you guys (that have done this) Think is the best coil to buy. For good performance, reliability, price. Getting parts ready. But need a new coil. Thanks

Best choices would be the GM external HEI coil found on the late 80s- mid 90s cars and trucks, or the high output coil found on alot of late 80s- mid 90s ford cars and trucks. Others would be MSD blaster coils, or any other aftermarket coil with a low primary resistance, and rated for high energy electronic ignitions... :)

I prefer the Pertronix HEI style coil. You can view pictures by clicking on the red link below my name. You can also buy them in several different ohm ratings. The way I have it mounted on the MSD supports it cools very well.

You can also use a Pertronix oil filled canister coil, they do them with fairly low primary resistance, about .6 ohms,it looks stealthy and works well with HEI systems.

Do a quick google search and learn how a coil works. Dont let high volts rating fool you, thats all marketing. Picking a coil is like making a sandwich, each part makes a greater whole. Pick a resistance, pick a turn ratio, and find out what condition your charging system is in. junk going in youre gonna get junk coming out.
