Hi guys, I posted this on the tranny forum but wanted to post here as well. The Valiant is together and runs well but the speedometer is WAY out of sync with the actual speed. When the car is doing 50 the speedo is showing 70 or more. Any thoughts? Regards, John Brayton |

You need a speedometer gear that matches your rear axle ratio and tire size. http://www.drivinithome.com/mopar-speedo-gear-chart/ |

Good luck on the 45 tooth gear. I tried to get one a few years back when I swapped to 4.56's with the 205/70R14's on the duster...Wildcat didn't have one, most of the web suppliers either were out...or they wanted $100....I finally went with a digital speedo and a sensor that screws in place of the cable and wires to the speedo (speedo uses whatever gear you have installed- I had a '34 tooth' installed, wires it and do a 2 mile calibration per the manual and it's all done...you can even reset it again if you change rear gears again...). Good luck on the hunt, you must have some steep gearing and small tires! -D.Idiot |

Hi DI, I have a 4.56 rear-end with 24.6 tires. I'm going with a 43 tooth gear for the speedo. We LOVE this car....a few bugs to work our but couldn't be more satisfied!! JB |

Running a mopar calculator with a slightly larger tire (24.75 diameter) and 4.56's puts you in the 48 tooth gear range... |

Hi DI, Yep, I saw that but am committed to this gear (I bought it!!:). I'll have it in the car next week and will see how accurate the speedo is. I have a 30 tooth gear now so this has GOT to be a big improvement. JB |

Didn't they use to make mechanical geared speedo converters? Might want to check out 4x4 parts and forums to find one. |

Got the new gear and installed it.....the 43 tooth gear is MUCH closer to real speed but still off.....I can live with it. Thanks for all of your help. Merry Christmas, John Brayton |
