What head gasket would you that know run in a 10:1 225 ? thinking about a steel.? would be thankful for the help. thanks Dino |

I can attest to Victor Reinz holding up to 12.35:1 SCR (I would not use Felpro after 10.5:1). I think Kidd (Andrew) had told me it holds up to a bit more than 12.5:1...-D.Idiot |

The steel gasket is thinner so you will see a little more compression when using that gasket. The downside is that you need nice clean and flat surfaces to keep a steel shim head gasket sealed so you should resurface the block & head... If you are machining those surfaces anyway, may as well remove enough material to get the needed compression, with the more common (and slightly thicker) "composit" head gasket. DD |

thanks Mr. Dutra, we are porting the head as per your article new stainless valves and such. we hope to get to where we want to be with the head.10:1. deck height to piston TDC is 0.1875. I checked them all that's the average. deck is FLAT ! thanks for your advice Dino |

I would machine like Doug stated, I have noticed that at 10:1 or better that if something goes wrong and you pull the head for some reason, if it warps you may need to use the comp gasket to get the better seal (that's the reason I know that Fel-pro doesn't do well above a certain SCR, I blew the gasket between the #5 & #6 cylinders daily driving, the head and block were machined flat but it didn't like the pounding I gave the engine). The best head gasket I have seen yet (beats the Victor Reinz) is the Aussie Permaseal comp gaskets, they stay put but self destruct upon removing the head.I also would deck the block some, so if your head develops an issue you can easily use a stock one out of a junkyard with little machining, if you take 100% of your cut out of the head, you may not be able to machine it any further if needed in the future. (I typically take about .090 out of the block then adjust the head to suit on a 9-10:1 engine). Good luck on the project, sounds fun. -D.Idiot |

Hi Dino, I agree that the Aussie Permaseal is the best. I have used Felpro and Victor as well, and I have never blown one on a non-boosted motor, up to 11:1 comp. I have blown one gasket ever, and this was on my turbo Dart. This had the fire ring hanging into the combustion chamber and it overheated the ring over time. Also note that I torque mine to 80 ft-lbs or sometimes a bit higher, which is above the factory spec. Some people like to retorque them too after a few heat cycles, but I have not done this. Lou |

I took .090 off the deck as DusterIdiot suggested. hoping to have it finished up in Jan for my B day. Building the other carb so I can run it and wont be second guessing my self when I light it off. Still could use suggestion where to purchase this head gasket! nobody in this area's heard of them found the website. Lots of dealers ant suggestions? thanks Dino |
