From what I can see in the first picture, it appears that the rear pulley groove on the compressor would align properly with the pulley that monts on the rear of the balancer, between the4 balancer and the engine. I encountered this when installing a Sanden compressor on my Dart. I found a Dodge Aspen or Plymouth Volare (don't remember which, but both the same) that had factory air and got the pulley there---salvage yard. Actually, there were many of this vintage that had a slant 6 with A/C. Anyhow, make an eyeball check of pulley alignment and see if this would work for you. Oh, my compressor has two grooves too, but that isn't a problem--just use the groove that aligns properly and use one belt. You will need some kind of idler for adjustability and fabrication could be the name of the game there. Jerry in Denver |

Ok Thanks, so I take it your still using your smog pump? Slant engines are getting tougher to find down here, I have yet to see one with A/C other than my own, Ive even waved down people in traffic just to ask.

1930, Actually, my '66 Dart never had an air injection system. I got a set of brackets from CharrlieS that positions one of the two compressor pulley grooves correctly for the use of the crank pulley located on the balancer between the balancer and the engine, which it appears to align in the picture you posted. Your issue is the fabrication of an idler bracket and pulley that takes the place of the air pump which you said is the original belt adjustment member on your vehicle. It could be challenging to fabricate an idler assembly, but not all that bad. Generic idler pulleys are listed regularly on ebay and also available at most parts stores and if you start with one of those you can build up to a properly operating idler. Also, unless your compressor clutch is bad, you don't need to go to the single groove clutch. Just leave the unneeded groove empty. Jerry Jerry |

Ok 66 Dart, I had one years ago, slant six 3 on the tree, it was one of the best cars I had ever owned as far as reliability. I loved that car, I dont know what ever happened to it. Had to sell it because of a job change. Actually, my '66 Dart never had an air injection system. Jerry Jerry Thanks, I am still looking into my best options for idler pulley. |

In looking for an idler pulley wouldnt I need a specific size groove for the belt I am working with, in other words wouldnt I want the groove to match my compressor? E-bay has an awful lot of pulleys listed, Id like to find the best/strongest I can so Im not changing it out every couple of years. |

I am still here. If you go to this post, http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=53842 and click the links, there are more pictures of my kit. My main bracket has a slot and a "T" bolt that slides in the slot. Where are you located? |

Thanks, I will check it out, I am in Brandon Fl just outside of TampaWhere are you located? Mother Mopar was smiling down on me this A.M at the salvage yard, a truck that I had looked at many times and borrowed many parts from had an idler bracket pulley on it, unfortunatly I think it is something that someone added for some strange reason, they had it bolted to the top of the smog pump bracket where originally one of the A/C bolts would have passed thru. There was no thought given for any sort of adjustment, I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish but I pulled the pulley and what I could anyway. I will go check out that post now and may have some more questions if you have the time. Thanks |

Picture 01 Charlies kit was a big help, all I really need to do is get the pulley configured, maybe you can sell me just what I need or give me the needed info to get the parts locally. I understand you are in buisness to sell your kits though so let me know what you are willing to do. Thanks again and nice work. |

1930' Now that you are in contact with Charlie, you are in good hands. I highly recommend his Sanden compressor bracket kit for the slant six. I simply bolted it on and mounted the compressor onto it. Perfect fit. Charlie is very helpful and will give you good advice. Yep, I really like the '66 Dart. This is the third '66 I've had over the decades. First was a GT 273 4bbl 4-speed back when it was still in factory warranty. In the mid seventies I had a GT 273 2-bbl A/T. Wish I still had both of those, but the current one is kinda cool 'cause of the split exhaust manifold. Takes me back to high school. Most of the dual exhaust cars back then were 216 and 235 Chevys with a couple of flathead Plymouths thrown in. Jerry |
