Post subject:  Spec plate on fender
As a new member on this forum, I have to admit to not being a Mopar owner for awhile. My problem is that I am somewhat confused by the metal tag on the left, front, inner fender on the '74 Duster that I have. All that it has on it are a lot of letters and numbers. I am used to seeing trim tags on the firewall of other makes that show paint, interior trim, and accessory codes. Is the tag on the fender of my Duster a trim tag and if not, where is the trim tag located. I need some replacement interior things and I'd like to find out the original codes.

Welcome, Scott. Yes the fender tag does have the codes you're looking for. There are folks around who have that knowledge, unfortunately I'm not one of them.
Hopefully one of our fellow forum members can help with the actual decoding of that tag, or at least point you to someone who can.

the fender tag should have the options that your car was equipped with along with sequence number and other sales items. Note that the tag is not 100% conclusive and may not list all the options the car came with (i.e. axle ratio and type), also the decoder is not 100% perfect either and you may have some codes that come up a big zero. The other important item to your car will be the build sheet (if it is intact or still exists), it was typically stuffed in 3 places in a late A-body :behind the glove box under the dash, in the springs of the front bench seat, in the springs of the lower part of the backseat.

1974 is a "wild year" with lots of options and was one of mopars best years with more dusters made that year than any other, for example the seats could come stock vinyl, or vinyl with cloth inserts with various patterns (i had one that was houndstooth black and grey), the tahitian gold version got cloth seats with wavy patterns in various colors of yellow, gold and brown)....

I think that the seller I bought my Gold Duster from had a picture and told me that the build sheet was in the springs of the rear seat so I will look for it. Maybe it is still readable!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm trying to get back up to speed on Mopars. It's been awhile since I've had one in my garage. Last one was a '47 Plymouth coupe but that hardly counts. Some time back, I owned a ' '60 Belvedere, 318, stick shift. Good runner but ugly fins! Also, had a '60 Valiant, 3 :) -spd. stick. Always liked that car and tried to get another at Indy Mecum auction but it went too high. I like the slant six so I got this Gold Duster from Oregon; Pretty much rust free but interior is shot. I'm trying to decide if the cardboard headliner can be recovered or if it should be replaced with the plastic one that Legendary sells. I'm going to try to post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it. This is a great forum site!
