Okay so I have a heater box with the Ac box and blower motor in bound to my house. Originally the controls were all vacum . anyone converted one these over to manual controls and if so how did you do it? |

The factory went with vacuum controls due to the increased complexity of the combined heat and AC system. Duplicating all the functions with manual controls is going to also be complicated. For instance AC cars shut off the coolant flow to the heater core which non-AC cars do not. That's one extra cable and control valve. What other functions do you need to duplicate? If you want to add AC then an under dash unit is really the way to go. If you want to replace the heat and add AC then there are various aftermarket solutions. Duplicating the factory AC setup in a non-AC car is complex. Even the firewall is different in an AC car. |

Appreciate the response. For the moment I just need to get the heat side working. Which I pretty well have wooped. Long term I would like to restore the original am Ac to working condition. Just looking and functional vs practical ya know |

Was your car factory (not dealer or other add-on) AC equipped? If not why did you choose an AC heater assembly? I'm just trying to frame this and get better make sense of your goals. |

It had Ac factory installed, some dummy in new mexico gutted the whole underdash and rigged some massively bass awkward wiring to make a heater work. Took me a week off back tracking and go through the original parts to figure out what had been done. I actually have the original Ac box side of the system but the fiberglass housing for the heater side was trashed. Found a guy up in wa that has the whole under dash assembly. I gotta go dig around but I might have the OEM vaccum switch and face plate. I will try to get some pics up tonight to give you a better idea. |
