There are limited brands of assembly lube available, but I tend to shy away from the clear goop offered by the regular stores since it doesn't stay put if you are assembling the engine over a period of say 3 weekends...So I tend to use Isky's Rev Lube which is a bit thicker so it stays put, doesn't harden into a cake in the bearings and has moly in it.

Likewise I tend to break my engnes in with 10W-30 since that's a standard all year oil for this area but also run Comp Cam's secret sauce (cam break in additive) since it's easier to get in my area and also has moly additive just in case.

I have never used brad penn break in oil.but,i run brad penn oil in all my diesel trucks (15w-40w). also in all my small gasoline engines(30w). that oil comes from the old kendall refinery in Bradford pa. as far as I know they still use only pa.grade crude which is the best crude produced ( parafine base,my opinion).and I like to support Pennsylvania oil strippers. if you call or email the refinery they will get back to you with any questions you have.i had some questions about specs on their rust preventive grease and they called right back.

Lucas makes a nice assembly lube. Then non synthetic 10-30 Rotella. All the ZDDP you'll ever need. Run for 20-30min then change filter and oil. Get a magnetic drain plug. After break in 500mi do another oil change. Then semi synthetic or full synthetic diesel oil in 10-30.

People get carried away with all this hokus pokus super fancy googly goop. It's great for cleaning out you wallet. If you are really wanting to go "exotic" dump in a pint of STP.

Go light with any lithium assembly lube as it can plug the filter.
