Remind me again of the smaller starter that can be used on the /6? My headers were in danger of cooking the starter before, but now with the new exhaust one of the pipes comes way too close.

I know a 94 dakota 2wd v8 has the mopar mini starter. thinking the v6 should be the same

May have answered my own question by trying different combos of words in the search feature:

"the "mini starter", which is a Nippondenso-built unit used on all '89-'03 rear wheel drive Mopar cars and trucks with 3.9 litre V6s, 318/5.2 and 360/5.9 V8s. You can buy them brand new off Ebay for $80 all day long. This is a very well designed starter that scarcely ever fails, and is considerably faster, smaller and lighter than the Chrysler unit."

The Nippondenso starter is definately the one you want. After 18 years and over 200K miles the gear reduction one in my Toyota is still working perfectly. I'm sure it's getting close to the end of its life, but it sure hasn't shown any sign of it. I may just buy one and keep it on a shelf so I can pop it right in once my current one goes

Dude, your best bet is to go to the boneyard and get one there for like $20-30, they work great and never have a problem. I have installed 3 of them and haven't failed me yet. Don't get suckered into buying a new one.

Mini starter

Just bumping this thread for future reference, as it seems to have all the info I've been searching for.

No harm in pulling good info up. Reminded me to swing by the "Previously Owned Auto Parts" Establishment tomorrow, and grab a Mini-Starter or two. I need one for the Rail, and I think I'll put one in Linda's '63 GT.

The Freeze of '13 is over, and we've settled into a damp chill. The Valley has risen above freezing, so I'll go out and check the Hooptie for cold damage. Didn't get the Anti-Freeze level up for the weather that hit us. It hadn't been that cold in 40 years. My radiator looked like a lime slushy.

You'll be go to go. Slush won't crack blocks, and split radiators in good repair. Problem comes when trying to start and drive a slushed up cooling system when the slush won't circulate through radiator. 50/50 mix for lower 48 and you won't have a problem.

Yep!

Over the course of the racing season I made-up some of the coolant here and there. Didn't realize it had dropped off enough to be an issue. My overflow tank seeps a bit. Next time I make MATS I'll pick up new one.
A few years back, when the tracks were telling us No Anti-Freeze allowed, I was running water and water-wetter. That would have been a real issue!
