Well I replaced the distributor and ignition module with units from Rockauto. Less than a hundred bucks to my door. Also I sacked the OSAC. Played with the timing and idle mixture and took a spin and there is a huge improvement in driveability. Thanks to anyone who helped me previously.

So I am going to rebuild the old distributor. The core was only $2  I know this question has been answered before, but someone please save me a search. I have the spring kit from a fellow member, so what springs do I use for the rebuild? It's a completely stock early 1980 truck.

Please learn to use the search function as this has been covered a lot.

As for springs there are a couple threads on ppls set ups and what they used. It is all based on vehicle, engine, trans, upgrades etc etc. its not so much a cookie cutter application.

Congrats on the truck running better, i scrapped the lean burn set up to go hei and got rid of the cats, it was like adding two cylinders. Keep truckin

Ok I searched and found it, end of page 3
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... t&start=30

Can anyone add more clarity? Like exactly what lighter spring from the kit?

There is no one answer to the spring you "should' use. The kit from bigslantsixfan should come with a sheet listing the advance rate of each spring combination in the kit. What you have to do now is map out your spark advance and dial it in on your truck. Some of this will be done with the engine idling at different speeds and you noting the timing advance, some of it will be doe with your driving and listening for pinging.

Always remember that when you are building a slant six there is never a "one size fits all" part or setting. That is one reason slants are so much fun.

Go to the Engine FAQ and there are two different threads on recurving. You need to down load the (4) jpg.s Doc posted on how to work on a distributor. Page 4 is a must have. The key part is doing your map. Send me your email and I will share my plot with you, plus a lot more info on the springs.
