The "condenser" on the coil is a noise reducer! For your radio! It isn't the condenser for the points! The points condenser is in the distributor! Under the cap!

Hey y'all, Still having problems with my '82 D150 stepside! It has been converted by P O from lean burn to points distributor!! Could someone draw a graph or diagram of how the wiring is supposed to be? It has the power wire from ignition for run going to one side of the ballast resistor, then from the other side of the ballast resistor it goes to the pos. on the coil! The neg. on the coil goes to the distributor! I'm assuming it goes to the condenser and points! There's a condenser looking thing on the coil bracket that was hooked up to the coil, but the wire broke out of the end of it and I thought it was the old condenser since there is one in the distributor!! I just can't understand the wiring diagrams!! To many lines! |

Dont really know about the condensor on the coil as well, I know my electronic ign on mine had one on the coil but not in the dizzy so maybe they disconnected that one when they converted it... Sounds like it is wired correctly though, from ballast to coil (+), should also have one to the (+) that is hot during cranking, and the wire from the (-) terminal on the coil goes inside the dizzy to the little nut on the side of the points, the internal condenser wire also connects to the same nut. |

Dave, Your best friend with that van is going to be a factory service manual. Even a Chiltons manual would be a help. You can pick one of those up at your local Advance or Pep Boys. Go on line and try to find a source of Factory service manuals and pick one up. Good luck. Sam |
