If you have cut the deck it can be in the 3/8" to 1/2" range...on a stock engine it an be 1"+... Typically you can use a degree wheel and install the stop then roll the crank one way record the number then roll it the other way and record the number, check the difference then remove the stop then roll the crank back to where the 1/2 way point is between the two numbers and that should be TDC...(at that point you may not need the stop for anything else, but if so you can then adjust the stop to contact the piston at TDC...just be sure you don't put too much pressure on the piston leaving a stop mark on it or bending the stop bolt). -D.Idiot |

Thanks DI, head is still stock not decked so leaving the stop flush with the threaded spark plug stop holder should be fine.... just like you said do not apply to much pressure and mark the spot in both directions on the damper...... |
