Post subject: | Oil filter relocation options |
hello, I am beginning to gather parts for switching ruster to an external belt drive oil pump system.. the oil pump is a single stage external.. no dry sump system. since I am ditching ole ma mopar's combined Oilmpump and filter I will be going with some sort of remote filter location. the question I have is: what are the pros and cons of a single filter unit? what about a double filter unit? (besides more cost and weight) thanks, Greg |

A single filter should be fine. Also, the stock filter you're using is the same one that the remote filters use, so your stock of oil filters is still good. With my Toyota truck, I put one of those thermostatic adaptors with an oil cooler in too.... |

I wouldn't worry about a dual filter setup, just more filters to change etc. It is true that it's the same oil filters, I believe 3/4 x 18 thread. Basically same filter as the slant, Toyota 22r/re, 80's mustang 5.0, and more. Wix 51515 is a good filter and holds almost a qt by itself. I've been running a remote oil filter on my / truck for a couple years w out a problem. |

We run Oberg filters on both cars and have never had a problem with them. Just clean an reuse the screen. It's a one time purchase. I changed the oiling system on the Lancer to where the Oberg screen is in the top of the oil tank. I will weigh the filter assembly and let you know the weight. Mark |

The Oberg I have is a model 600. It's old and has two 90 degree aluminum fittings attached. It weighs in at 4lbs. 15.8ozs. Don't see why it shouldn't work with a single stage oil pump as it is one line in and one line out. Mark |

excellent thanks for the info.. I think that is the way to go.. what micron filter do you run on that 6" unit?Don't see why it shouldn't work with a single stage oil pump as it is one line in and one line out. Mark Greg |

Looks like their finest screen is 28 microns. The Wix/Napa Gold has a micron rating of 21. |
