Post subject: | The oil pump drive gear question |
OK, so I've been talking to various racers about the diameter of the OP drive gear shaft. We're trying to find a happy spot for an interference gear. I measured the Melling pump I picked up from a group buy a few years ago. It measured .4850" with my dial calipers. I decided that I needed to be a bit more accurate to make sure. I broke out my micrometers, calibrated them to the appropiate standard, and got .4850" which makes me feel really good about my dial calipers! The .500 gear from a distributor will not work. What is the small diameter gear for the SBC? how many teeth, and what diameter is the gear hobbed on? There is a smaller diameter shaft size for that gear. I'm wondering if we can use that bronze gear for oil pumps on billet cams... CJ |

Somewhere in my treasures I have a bronze gear for a Slant oil pump. I think the Cox Bros. had them made. |
