Hi, I am new to this forum and to forums in general. I have a 1964 Dodge Dart GT with a 225ci slant six completely stock engine with a single barrel holly carburetor. I have owned this car for about 7 years and I am ready to get some real power out of my slant six. I was just wondering where to start and what you guys have to suggest for making more power. Thanks P.S. My friend has a 72 Nova with a Chevy 400 in it and I would love to beat him with my slant six. Is it possible? |

Sure. Remove the hood, trunk lid, doors, rear seats, glovebox door, spare tire... just kidding of course. But what I can say is I don't think it will be cheap. |

I have been looking for springs and shocks for the front end but i have not been able to find anything. What would you suggest to make my car handle better? I think this is a great place to start because right now my car floats around like a boat. |

You will search for a loooooong time to find front springs. ![]() Read this: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1963-1966 ... rt-gt1.htm Paragraph 3. BTW, welcome to the board. Lots of knowledge here. regards,Rod ![]() |

lol im building my valiant to beat a friends pontiac 400. he should be in the high 13's this season. check out the boost&nitrous section. and the turbo builds in the sticky at the top. as far as i can figure turbo seems to be the best way to make good power without selling a kidney. |

Buy my motor, trans, converter, and rear end. Cut as much weight as possible. Spray it. ![]() |

My junk went 13:80's on motor and 12:0's on spray. V-8 is definitely cheaper for the motor, but you still have to upgrade everything else or you will kill yourself, especially brakes. Early A's do suck to get decent headers in for a V-8. Not many good choices for a Slant either. |

Vote #2 for doing anti-sway bars and suspension work first. To be honest, a good running SL6 A-Body Mopar that handles well is a pretty "peppy" combo and fun to drive... with-out "breaking-the-bank". DD |

Yep! I agree Doc. ![]() Installed 340 V8 torsion bars (.893 and .894), 1 1/8" Hellwig sway bar, Edelbrock shocks front and rear, new 6 leaf rear leaf springs from ESPO and wider 7" rims to get more stability and 10 " brakes front and back. It has to handle first before you can start applying power. Do a distributor recurve and hang on on! It is a blast to drive. Click on the red link to view pictures.... |

Visit Firm Feel, www.firmfeel.com for suspension and steering stuff. Brakes from a '73+ disc brake car are good. Upgrading those with 11.75" rotors is even better, but usually not needed. Then go for horsepower. |

Not any more.......many, many up grades. The current 1979 engine is stock internally. Got it out of a pile of hay in a barn and resurrected it after sitting 10 years. It was in horrible shape.....no carb, or fuel pump or distributor, oil was like black top and took several hours to drain the clumps out.....is this stock? All I did was run lots of Rislone and eventually Mobile 1 synthetic to clean it out. It would barely turn over.....got it loosened up turning it over by hand and eventually got it running on a few cylinders. After driving it home about 45 miles it began to run on all 6 cylinders. I hate to admit it but it has been in there as my daily driver for 4 years now. I just run the heck out of it....it is kind of fun to see how much can be done to a stock engine and how well it can perform. The "Torque build" motor is just awesome and feels better than a 318. The stock motor is in there temporarily while the "Torque Build" engine in the earlier photos is getting some upgrades. The "Torque Build" recipe is in the Engine FAQ section. |
