Post subject:  AC Expansion valve seal question

hooking up the ac components on the 83 D-150, the truck did not originally have ac, so I don't have notes on how the seals install for the expansion valve. The FSM gives bolt torque, shows the stamped speel gaskets ( N-Gasket), does not show the plastic sleeves or o rings...

here is a photo of the seals that came with the 38848 expansion valve.

Do I use the flat metal seals and the O rings and the plastic sleeves? How do these assemble together?

I am thinking the green orings are 134a compatable, is that correct?

if so
1) does it make a difference if the ridges on the flat seals face the valve or the evaporator and hose end?
2) do the plastic sleeves go in the evaporator or hose end openings on the expansion valve,, or maybe on the ends of the evaporator or hoses?
3) do I need to pre lube the o rings with pag oil,, saw that on a u tube video, but it had no info on these other questions.

thanks

If you cant get a answer from somebody that knows. Take your Camera out to a pick-n-pull or other self service yard and pull one apart from a truck or van and snap some pictures.

yep, I have done the pull-a-part tear down,, pretty cold out side right now..

CJ thanks for the info,,

and I spoke with our local resident AC expert Charrlie,,,

the plastic sleeves are used for applications where the evaporator mount or hose mount does not have the pressure tubes protruding from them and are 'flat' on the mounting ends. The plastic sleeves are inserted into the expansion valve and become the dowels that hold the flat metal gaskets in place for installation.
For the evaporator that I have, the tubes protrude so the the metal gaskets side on to them..

The O rings appear to be for the hose to condensor fitting or potentially for some other expansion valve application that accepts O rings....

thanks again
