Post subject:  New manifold doesn't have a slot for Climatic Choke

So I got a new exhaust manifold and there is no slot/tube/bracket for the climatic choke to fit on it. It's a dorman manifold that I made sure fit the car, but the choke isn't compatible. I have a Holley 1920 carb.

What do I need to convert the carb to an electric choke? The guy at carbsonly told me he didn't know what I needed and I would rather get it from somewhere not on the opposite side of the US for shipping purposes.

Did you ask for their electric choke kit? http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12996

I did, and he kept telling me that he doesn't know what kit if he doesn't know what manifold I have. I'll call again tomorrow but Carlos (the guy) was adamant that he needed to identify the manifold before he could tell me the kit I needed. He said "if it's not stock I don't know what I can do."

He is not necessarily wrong, because he could be thinking you have some aftermarket header or something. The problem is that the Carbsonly kit uses the same mounting boss as does the factory thermostatic choke assembly. If the Dorman manifold truly has none of the mounts for the thermostatic choke pull off, then you are stuck going with either a manual choke or a carb that has an electric choke integral to the carb body.

You might post a picture, as you may need the 1973 only Holley 1920 choke pulloff with the "late" manifold pocket...I'd bet the one you have is the open well style with the "cup insert" which won't work with the 1973-1987 style manifold.

Here is a link to pictures of the new manifold. It doesn't seem to have any spot for the choke stove to connect to.

Having to get a manual choke or a new carb is not something I need to have happen right now.

Post subject:  Hey...

Those were great pics of the bottom where the choke does not go...flip it over and lets see what they did on top near the 4th runner (general shape and lack of 'lump' on the 4th runner is looking like your options are limited).

Crap, you're right. Well it was late but the top looks the same, everything is smooth with no slots for the choke. So I'm just screwed?

In these pictures here you can see the pocket on number 4 cylinder port.

Would be nice to see a picture of the top.

does not need to be true,, I am using one of Carlos electric choke heaters with dual Dutra's,,no choke pocket,, from light gauge metal I made a support bracket to hold the choke heater,,, I'll dig around and see if I can find a photo.

Carlos offers two heater assemblies,, the difference between the two are: one has the choke pull rod in line with the heater assembly and the other has the choke pull rod at a right angle to the heater assembly. That is to accomodate carbs that have the choke pull in line with or across the normal engine orientation.
