starting this thread as a place to post useful information concerning automotive wiring products and techniques. This is not a good thread to post electrical problems, but it is a good place to post product information and good places to buy wiring supplies from. here is a product for labeling wires for future identification... Mity Mark,,, wire lables, numbers and colors http://www.mitymark.com/MityMark-wire-m ... nsers.aspx |

This is great Idea. Couple of years ago rewired the truck under hood and to the back. Still haven't done under the dash. These are place I ordered from. All good experience's. http://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-18960-Ra ... B006O1Y1FY Says it does weather pack connectors but I couldn't figure it out. http://www.repairconnector.com/ for pigtails and lamp socket brass terminals http://www.halfpricecaraudio.com/ I ordered heavy gauge cable from them. http://www.corsa-technic.com/index.php terminals http://motorsportswiring.com/ Ordered wire here great to deal with. They sell the same wire that Painless Performance sells in bulk that they use fro their harness at much less price. http://www.clipsandfasteners.com/O_E_M_ ... _s/259.htm Ordered http://www.pcsconnectors.com/ their sight is down as of posting for redesign. They carry the Packard 59 terminals for headlights. Their the only ones i found that carry it in a double wire crimp. Great for when you want to run grounds and power wires from headlamp socket to another. Meaning you can crimps 2 wires side by side in the terminal. http://www.prime4x4.com/ I ordered military style battery clamps and covers from them. Great service. http://rockauto.com/ http://www.securecableties.com/ShoppingCart.aspx Spiral wrap and loom https://www.terminalsandconnectors.com/ If you find a terminal you need somewhere else on the web, I found these guys to be cheaper sometimes. http://www.amazon.com/Delphi-Packard-We ... sbs_auto_2 This thing did great job and should do metri pack connectors also. I will find out soon and update. Bulkhead replacement info is great, but I'm thinking that if my bulkhead connector was beyond repair I would just use the plastic housing and splice all the wires "color to color" and soldered and shrink tubed with sealant and forget the disconnect function. Wasn't that simply a production line feature anyway? The only reason I've ever had to open a bulkhead connector is to survey it for damage, clean, (or replace) individual contacts, grease and re-assemble. Further, the replacement connectors they sell would require firewall modification to fit and be weather tight. No particular reason not to do it, but seems pretty labor intensive and costly (parts and tools) for not much gain. But, as always of course, I could be wrong! BC |

I posted it because people have shown interest in it. http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... +connector When you get ready to solder and tape or shrink wrap those wires at the bulkhead are you going to do it from under the dash or are you going to crawl into the engine compartment. Having rewired a few vehicles in my time, my 86 2 years ago, I cant imagine soldering the 40 some wire's going thru that connector from either one of those 2 locations. Yes none are factory replacements but people customize vehicles all the time. And Hey yours would be custom to if you did it your way. I just wanted to show people there are option's out there and you have shown there is another. Dave |

Hi, X. Thanks for showing the alternatives and the other info! All information is good info, even if it doesn't work out like expected. My 64ragtop and the AZDart only have 16 wires going through the bulkhead and I would disconnect the dash harness and pull enough slack to do the splicing in the engine compartment, then re-connect the dash electrics. I have soldered overhead, but only at gunpoint in the future! There are always more than one way to skin a cat - but the cat won't like any of them, ![]() BC |

Here is a link to the Delphi Electrical Centers(Power Distribution Centers) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0EBfg ... sp=sharing Mouser Electronics carries a lot of the items that can be purchased in volumes of 1 or more instead of having to buy bulk volumes. Here is link to entire catalog https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0EBfg ... sp=sharing Dave |

Not to sound like a newbe, but I have had luck with Canadian tire and Napa on occasion. Not the greatest, kinda hit and miss on availability and making sure the guy behind the counter understands what a distributor is. |

When you to upgrading electronics or adding circuits it is nice to have a bulkhead connector for many reasons. When I started down the road of adding things I had no idea I would end up adding so much. I wish I had started with a bulkhead connector with large capacity. Each time I added something it would have been far simpler to plug in a new pair of connectors. At this point I have maybe 20 or more extra wires strung through a hole in the firewall. Troubleshooting circuits is hard, and adding new ones is hard. Plus it is not weather, sound, or fume proof. The problem is the design process is actually Rand D being done on actual hardware and not a design being drawn up on a diagram. Things are constantly changing and being modified. You just don't know what your final design is going to require. I really wish I had started with a good bulkhead connector. Sam |
