I asked on the A-body forum about the drainback tube that attaches to my oil filter, wanted to know if there were different length tubes, maybe one would be better than another for my particular engine. This was a response I received.......

I have only seen 2,, the long tube that is on the older pumps , the newer pumps are short, actually not a tube at all. I'm sure there is a reason for the tube, also why they did away with it when they changed the design for the newer pumps. Which is better??,, I have no Idea. I'm sure someone that knows will chime in and tell us.

So far no-one chimed in so Ill ask the experts what the deal is with these tubes. Thanks

Yes...
Long "standpipe" for tall oil filters & short tubes for short filters and no check valve & tube for oil filters with built-in check valve & tubes.

Thanks Doc, is one better than another. How would I know which I should be looking out for.

At this point going by your picture I would say I have a long tube on there now, dont know anything about any check valve though being in a filter ( but have heard things about this ) can you clarify?

With the short one you could always use a WIX 1806 oil filter which has a built in stand pipe for no knock on start up.
