Post subject:  Fiberglass fenders...

Anyone have experience with fiberglass fenders? Do they work just as well as steel or do they rattle or have issues with paint, anything negative about them?

I may have a line on a set for my car, wondering if I should fix the metal ones or replace with fiberglass.

thanks all,

There is an issue with race vs street fiberglass, the former being lighter but needing special supports to avoid breaking.

I'm assuming these are street fiberglass. Still I think they hold paint as well as steel, so why not use them?

There are some really bad fiberglass parts out there. Ask around about prospective vendors. Race weight is not for street use unless you really must have the weight savings and can deal with shopping carts breaking parts. Expect to do quite a bit of fitting and drilling if using fiberglass fenders as they are almost never cut for marker lights, head lights, wiring pass-through holes, etc.

There are plenty of Corvettes out in the world with good paint, but those bodies are also high quality. You can make most anything look good, but the labor involved with making cheap parts look good generally makes them less economical than a good part.

If I can get these fenders cheaply, I can try them out...and while they're on the car, I can have plenty of time to repair the steel ones...
