I have always used Berryman's Chem Dip for all my carbs, and even for removing carbon from piston ring lands. I just bought a new gallon of it to rebuild my BBD Super Six carb and it is worthless! Soaked carb parts for an hour and no effect. Then soaked them overnight and it still has gunk stuck all over it and varnish is still all there. Might as well have been using water!

What happened to Berryman's???

There are different Berrymans, they aren't all the same. You want the chlorinated one (part# 0901/0905), not the non-chlorinated one (0996).

0905 is a c-note and still available here in CA even. Nasty nasty stuff.

Okay, I get it. But the non-chlorinated is apparently not sold in auto parts stores here any more. I tried Napa and they didn't carry any Berryman products, I found the non-chlorinated at O'Reilly. it was the only dip they had. I would guess that Oregon must have outlawed the good stuff. The "nasty" kind kicks butt. Kinda shocked that Cali still allows it.

Go to the counter and give them part numbers. 0901 and 0905 are both available special order at Orilleys using the 30 Se Grand Avenue - Portland, OR store per website.

If your doing bigger pieces the bucket is a worthy investment. Otherwise, dispose of what you have in a proper manner, buy the 0901, and pour it into the container/basket you already have. Frame of reference - I've put two LCA"s in the 0905 bucket at same time without having to turn them over. It will swallow a 4 bbl carb whole.

Google "pinsol carb cleaner". It works quite well and is cheap and more user friendly. Just make sure you dilute it (I believe the recipe is 2 parts water to 1 part pinsol but dont quote me on that). Otherwise it will strip the plating and/or etch parts.

Carquest carries the full line of Berryman products, they can order what you need. Napa in the bigger cities are kind of lacking these days.
