The bar is completely split. Ironically right where the hole rusted through in the floor board from the leak.

I'm kinda new to these forums and I decided to post about my first car. Its a 1972 Plymouth Valiant with a 225 /6. I got the car from my mother( Her old college car) because all it was doing was sitting. My father dosen't like the car very much and he just abandoned it. My grandfather wanted to help me because he is a Mopar guy. We got a new battery, Radiator, and starter to see if ol' Betsey would turn over. She did! Only sputtered out in less than ten seconds with a sucking sound. It was the carburetor base gasket. For some odd reason, my dad couldn't find the issue, even though he is an ASE certified Mechanic. Right now ol' Betsey is still sitting awaiting spring. I need Torsion Bars( If you've got any, Contact me please at Viper02497@gmail.com ) Need to redo the brakes, and the vents in front of the dash leaks, so new Drivers side floor pans. Its got a 3 on the tree standard transmission. I also want to make it sound like its at least got slight balls too. I hope you've enjoyed my story. -Kyle (p.s How do I add pictures?) |

Hello and welcome! Sounds like a fun first project, especially with the family history. What is wrong with the torasion bars? Are they just out of adjustment? You need to spend more time with your grandfather. He gets it! |

I wish I had more time with my grandfather, this board has benefited from what I did get to learn from him (that's probably the best inheritance anyone can ever get...). Sadly he passed away before he got to see the mad scientist he created, and the fruits of going down the slant six rabbit hole, and the diversity of knowledge and experience on the board (about 1 year before I got my Feather Duster put back together...).Probably your dad being a career mechanic just doesn't want to come home and wrench on cars since he has to do it all day at work...I also have met some ASE techs that passed their courses but have no clue how a carburated car works (I pass on those shops, and they don't last long for some reason). Fixits are easy to do once you can get the parts, and it's an easy car to work on. Get it up and driving reliably first, then tackle the "fun" build next. Keep asking questions! -D.Idiot |

I have the same car but mines brown with a vinyl top and rallyes. I will be pulling my stock bars soon in place of bigger aftermarket ones so if you want stock slant six bars i could ship you mine if you just pay shipping costs. Let me know and good luck! |

Just an Update. Thanks to MoreDoorVal, I will be getting torsion bars soon, and I will be checking brakes and electronics. My car will finally be on the road this summer. I am planning to keep historical plates on it and drive it on the weekends for now. I have an Isuzu I rescued out of the field on our farm I will be driving during the summer. I just found out not too long ago I have the chance to be on the local FD. So I am turning the Iszuzu into the POV because I dont want lights and a siren on the Valiant.
