I have an 8 3/4 rearend, 741 case, small bolt pattern with 10" drums. Is there a disk brake conversion for this rearend going to large bolt pattern? All I can find is for the 742 case. I don't want to switch out axles and such.

is there a way to machine the rear drum to large bolt pattern or is there a (safe) adapter plate or something for using large bolt pattern wheels on the rear?

I'm asking because I want to change my front brakes to disc and why not go to large bolt pattern if I can...

I would contact http://www.doctordiff.com/

There really isn't enough space on the A-body 8 3/4 axles for press-in studs on the 4.5" bolt circle. I used cut-down C-body wagon axles and 10" drums off an F-body when I swapped to an 8 3/4 nearly 20 years ago.

That site does have a kit that works with all 8 3/4 rearends, Green or otherwise apparently. I'll check it out.

The 741/742/489 case has nothing to do with what brakes you use. Bearings, yes.

Cass (doctordiff) is a great guy. He can set you up with a custom anything. He's made me a one off sbp disc setup too.

As Joshua said if your going to bbp your going to be switching axles regardless. Cass can supply you with the axles also - $300 for proper length axles ready to go with green bearings pressed on already. Less hassle this way then cutting/re-splining C body units and may end up being cheaper.

Yes, I spoke with Cass and he was very helpful. From my preliminary research it looks like the best way to go to LBP on the back is his axle set with the green bearings, then either the drum or disk setup he sells.

For the front, I think theramman, Wayne Brown, likely has the best setup; the Kelsey Hayes four piston '76 a-body factory specs disk setup for $600. He even makes SBP rotors for it if you want to stick with SBP.

I have an 8 3/4 with SBP 10" drums, so I'm torn between upgrading to LBP with Cass or just leaving "as is" and running Wayne's SBP disk rotors/setup in the front.

It's really about the wheel choices, if I stick with SBP I only have a couple choices (absent custom machined $$$), but I do like Cragar SS look on an A-body. If I upgrade to LBP, then the sky is the limit on what wheels I can choose.

I only have the one car, my '67 dart, which admittedly needs a lot of work. I'll end up spending as much (or more) than if I had just bought a mint one in the first place (but I'd miss out on all the fun, and I didn't have a big wad of cash lying around).

I'm wondering how people with multiple cars manage it...sheesh.. One of my neighbors has 2 chevelles (SS 396), 2 rare MG's, an old porshe, and a couple other vintage cars, I don't recall which types, all in mint condition. He must have hundreds of thousands of dollars tied up in those things, and they're all in his driveway (or on the street)...ugh. I couldn't sleep at night if that were me...

The K-H 4-piston disc setup is nice (it was used on A-bodies thru '72). But to get the best "bang for the buck", I'd consider getiing the A-body LBP single piston disc setup for a '73-'76. Unless you NEED a 8-3/4 axle and rear discs, a 8 1/4 with 10" drums & front discs works pretty well (you can step up to Cordoba front 11-3/4" rotors)

I have a newly rebuilt 8 3/4 sitting in my garage, but it has small bolt pattern 10" drums.

My quandary is whether to leave that "as is" and convert to SBP disk in the front, or bite the bullet and go with LBP and swap out axles/brakes in the rear. The rear end is out, so it would be easy (labor wise) to make changes now, before I install it. Then again, swapping axles should be easy even on the car. I may install the rear end (new leafs, drive shaft etc) and then decide later, since I have SBP 9" drums on the front, I could run that way for awhile while I think about it.

The prospect of have LBP for a few hundred or so more, and never having to deal with "special" parts or limited wheel selection is pretty tempting. I'm sure many on the board must have been at this cross roads and have an opinion....

I'm sure disk front/drum rear is plenty of stopping power for my needs, so I don't think I need rear disks.

Yes, I misspoke, theramman puts out K-H 2.75" single piston '76 setup for disc conversion. I agree, probably the best way to go.

For pre-'73 his kit has the crush sleeve so you don't have to change UCA.

I'm not sure what ramman pieces your referring to, he may have multiple products. Show us links to what your considering?

Cass has that crush sleeve adapter too.

As for rear discs - if your going to do a drum sbp to drum bbp upgrade, price everything out. Drums, hardware, adjuster kits, backing plates, cylinders... it adds up quick. May not be too far from a disc kit.
