I was talking to a guy the other day, and mentioned I wanted Manual steering on my 70 Road Runner. He mentioned ( rather casually) That and A body box would work.....I have looked on the net, and cant find anything. Was he just high? Or has anyone else head this? |

Yes, the manual steering boxes interchange as a group from '62-'72 and '73 to the end of RWD car production except for C-bodies and vans. The V8 boxes have needle bearings on the sector shaft, the /6 boxes have a bushing. The C-body/van steering box has the larger sector shaft and can be used with a later Pitman arm and center link. My '72 B300 had manual steering and I upgraded using the power steering out of a '78 Dodge Magnum as both boxes use the same Pitman arm spline. |

Manual /6 steering boxes have a sector shaft bushing, V8 boxes have a bearing. I believe all power steering boxes have a bearing, but I'm not sure. Call Firm Feel if you want to know for certain. |

Thanks Josh!!! So, I did a trade today, and got a manual box, said it came from a Barracuda w/ a V8. Is there different part numbers for V8, and slant 6 boxes? Also, is the pitman arm different A to B ? My RR is a power steering car....so if the pitman arm is different, I would need a B body manual arm, right? |

I would have to believe the /6 and V8 steering boxes carried different part numbers, but what those numbers would be I have no idea. I'm not one to collect part catalogs. The Pitman arms for '72 and earlier cars are all small spline, but whether the A and B body parts are the same I don't know. Look 'em up! |
