so I put new gaskets on my holley 6145 off of my 81 d150 and it sounds good but it will not idle properly now. like it will just die but everything else is sounding fine. im pretty sure all vacum hoses are routed properly. any tips? this is the first time I have messed with a carb really. It worked fine before and I didn't mess with any adjustments. any tips? I will send post pics of the linkage since I think that's my problem. the fast idle cam wont stay in position off of the manifold or on the manifold. so I am assumeing I messed up the linkiage somewhere? and tip would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Check to make sure the fast idle cam moves freely and the low idle screw centers on it correctly. It could have been bumped or bent sideways a little. Make sure it moves freely and is not binding. How does the high speed idle screw line up?

You can down load the repair manual out of the Engine FAQ section.

The fast idle cam is moving freely, maybe to freely. It wont stay in place when I put it on the second highest point of the cam as my book says. Did I maybe put a linkage on wrong? Everything looks good on. I will post some pics once I figure out how[/img]

Anyone? I know I should probably just get a 1945 and swap to a eletronic ignition. But thats not as cost effective as figuring this out. Any help would be nice. Im pretty sure it has to do with my fast idle cam as it doesn't seem to want to stay in place. Any help is always appreciated

With out a picture of your carb it is hard to tell. Does the automatic choke pull it up the high speed position? If not, maybe the linkage did not get put back on correctly.

That is why I suggested looking at the manual .pdf in the Engine FAQ so you could compare yours with the pictures in the manual.

Did you do that?

Hope this helps......
