Hi guys and girls and the guru of slants SlantSixDan.

Firstly let me start off by saying yes I have dug through the rest of the forums for data on this particular kit from Hemi Performance here in Oz but I cant see anything about it so I thought Id quiz all the gurus.

Using that link above would that be a direct and straightforward transition from ballast resistor and points to that kit and is that kit complete for everything Id need to transfer over?

I appreciate all comments in advance everyone as this is my first slant and my first Val in a decade and prior to that I never worried about points but now Im just older and lazier lol

Do a google search for "mopar slant six electronic ignition" for many choices, starting below $200.00 U.S.
The australian kit includes the coil, but that's not a $300 part!

I'm assuming google search and ebay work the same upside down :D

Tell you what- for $300 plus shipping to Oz, I will sell you a Ford E-core coil, a slant six electronic ignition distributor, a brand new HEI ignition module, a heat sink, AND a tube of heat sink compound!

Seriously, though, you could piece together a better ignition system for MUCH cheaper than $500.

There are a few so called " Mopar specialists " but,you can buy all the HEI stuff yourself and have a great system at a fraction of the cost... If you really need something then sure,use them,but you can save yourself a lot of money doing it yourself,did it to my VC ,made a big improvement.Cheers!

You may pick up some part numbers and find a price for your own HEI package, from the HEI setup of one of our memebers down under, here:

And remember, a basic HEI module is all you need on a street driven car with a SL6 or Hemi6 engine, no need to buy special high performance stuff.

Im only going to put a two barrel manifold on it with a 350cfm Holley after a full rebuild back to just above original specs. Nothing excessive basically just a clean out and rebuild and running unleaded etc.

Thanks guys I truly appreciate all the input as Ill be the first to say I know F all about these electronic ignition kits etc as everyone varies on general opionon.

I can't believe the price on these kits...they even show a reman distributor in each photo (which is about $50-75 here in the US, and a russian roulette game on what you really get in the body). Ballast resistor is about $12, the coil another $30 or so, the wiring harness is a $10 junkyard item or a $90 mopar performance item, the mopar orange box is a chinese pile of junk....

If you are willing to spend more money for lower quality and poor-er working parts, then get that kit. Seriously, you can piece together a better kit using other locally available parts for less money than purchasing that kit linked above.

If you can wait for the shipping, you can spend less money ordering better components form the US and still spend less money (including shipping!).

That last kit is only the Mopar electronic ignition....the HEI setup is pretty old school,but the Mopar setup is even older. If it was me I would save my money. The HEI kit that Hemi Bill does is expensive,but it will do a good job. My only concern is what advance curve you get in the dizzy and the heatsink for the module looks pretty small,but he's done them for years and years,so it must work I guess. If you can join a wire together and read a very simple wiring schematic go buy the stuff yourself,even on eBay and freight it from the USA,you will still be hundreds ahead and have a better system. Off the top of my head it was $110 for a brand new dizzy,$20 will get you a decent module,$40 for a coil at a guess and a heatsink from jay car for a few bucks and your in business!throw $70 for freight and your almost half price ! Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't hesitate dealing with Hemi Bill,there are some "specialists" in NSW that I avoid at all cost,but its still an expensive kit.

No, I agree with the others here, personally would not go for that one. Those kits are put together by people that want to make a profit because they recognize a demand from somone like yourself; people that are uncertain about what to buy. Do yourself a favour, and use the parts numbers in the list in the australian link I provided and get some prices, so you have something to compare with. Besides, the later Mopar electronic ignition units, like the one shown, are usually cheap chinese copies, you should avoid them.
All members in this forum will give you all assistance available to make your ignition system up to date.

But, we may talk beside the real subject here. If you main goal is to get rid of the points distributor, you should maybe consider a Pertronix kit or similar (including a coil).

I know that other members here can advice you far better on points to electronic dizzy conversion than I can, I hope one of them can comment here.

I was going to suggest a Pertronix drop-in electronic ignition conversion, but Olaf beat me to it, Then I found this:

These folks might be better able to serve you. I have no personal experience with the Pertronix kits, but they're mighty simple and quick to install and lots of people use them.
Could be worth a phone call.

The Australian distributor is a totally different beast to the US ones, I believe pertronix do a kit, but I wouldn't bother, firstly your bushes will be worn, secondly good luck getting a vac advance if you need it and thirdly it has a very small diameter cap, no good for performance use in my book. If you have a VE or VF Valiant I believe the hemi 6 dizzy fit , not sure but I think that's correct, grab a decent electronic dizzy off a hemi, buy a hei module and coil, hook up 6 wires and save hundreds . Pertronix isn't a true HEI, pretty sure it's just the older model they do for Australian dizzys anyway

Really? I have never heard of this before. It would make sense given the fact that Australian cars were right hand drive so the steering column and associated parts were all stuffed on the right hand side of the motor. I would love to see some pictures of how Australian slants wee set up and how the distributor is different from the US version.

Sure... My Early valiant now has the US made electronic dizzy. I always thought you guys were being a little soft when you complained how tight the fit was! When I installed mine I was quickly educated on what you guys mean! The Australian dizzy was made by Bosch Australia , I believe to increase local manufacturing content in the cars, so alts, starters, carbs, dizzys,rear ends, and even some transmissions ( after 1967)were made here. The old Bosch dizzy was very small in diameter, easier to fit,but parts are pretty much long gone except for points, caps etc. you guys aren't missing much not having them! If I can find the old dizzy I'll take a shot of it. Cheers
