Post subject:  Vented or non-vented fuel cap?

I understand from searching here that my '63 wagon should have a non-vented cap - that that was standard.

Well, the rubber gasket around my keyed, non-vented cap is cracked and no longer does any kind of good job sealing the fuel in and keeping it from sloshing out after I've filled it up.

Should I just get another keyed non-vented cap, or should I buy something else to help seal in the fuel? I understand that it was a common complaint of station wagon owners that the fuel tended not to stay IN the tank but drip/slosh down the side. I'd like to fix this problem and the first step should be a good new cap.

Please advise!

can't you replace the rubber gasket on your locking cap?

There you go! Doesn't lock, but it is Super Nice Looking! I'd be afraid someone would steal my gas cap.

Those are really nice. But being here in the big city, that thought came up. There's a nice bit of peace of mind with a locking gas cap. I've been fortunate so far to have no vandalism but I'd sure hate to tempt fate and make it easy for someone to walk off with it. I don't garage my wagon, much as I'd like to. And I drive it everywhere.
