Is there any reason not to eliminate the plug-in connection from the distributor to the control module? (splice the wires and plug directly into the control module) |

Mopar module or the HEI module? The Mopar module (if present) will be rendered useless by an HEI conversion. There is no reason not to use the stock HEI module wiring plug. |

HEI conversion on my '64 Dart. It just seems like an extra Unnecessary (Factory) connection. |

Unless you do not want to remove the distributor, if you do the plug is nice. Richard |

couldn't I just unplug it from the module? 1 plug is large and 1 is small, so I wouldn't get them mixed up. and it's my hope to not have to remove the distributor too much once I go to HEI ![]() |

Oh, THAT plug! The one down by the distributor. I agree with Fopar. Leave the plug. Otherwise you have to cut and splice the wires if you ever need to remove or replace the distributor. |

Keeping it simplifies things a little, also if you ever need a new dizzy you wont have to cut the plug off of it, or if you ever decide for some odd reason that you want to go back to the mopar electronic ignition, the plug is still there. Get one from the wrecking yard if you can, or Im using a 2-wire trailer plug on mine thats been doin the job just fine for a couple years now ![]() |

If you ever need to replace the pickup it will have the plug. Unless the plug is damaged it makes as good of connection as any splice you are liable to end up with and maintains the convenience, I'd vote to keep it. jm2c |

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to keep it. I am mounting the HEI module fairly close to the distributor and just didn't think I needed the extra connection. Quote: If you ever need to replace the pickup made me think twice. The quality of the New SMP pickup is not nearly as good as the one I am replacing. ![]() |

I like to plug and play different distributors with different curves. The plug makes swaps much quicker and stooped proof! |
