Post subject:  selecting springs for distributor re-curve

I have a set of recurve springs from bigslantsixfan as well as a set from the Crane 996040-1 kit.
I was wanting to see how the springs from those kits compared to what was in the stock 38748786 distributor..

Technically, spring load analysis is not areas that I work in, but using basic skills and tools I made a spring capacity testor using an garage sale drill press and a fish scale.

here is a video of the spring gauge that I made

I then ran the Crane springs, the springs in BSSF's kit and the OE springs from the 38748786 distributor across my spring gauge.
results are tabulated here

(corrected 5/7/14, green and blue were switched)

I know that BSSF's kit comes with a curve chart,, but I was wanting to see the load capacity of the various springs..

should be useful for matching springs to a desired advance curve,, and made for a fun afternoon for me :D
