I recently discovered a part in my box of parts I got from the old owner of my 1968 Dart that I bought almost 2 years ago. I'm trying to figure out what this one thing is, as I have door handles, gas caps and a bunch of other self explanitory things. I'll try to get pictures up, but it looks like a blue, maybe gray planter pot, with two hose fittings going left and right, and one going straight up, opposite the base. I drew a picture. ![]() It has a bent flange attached to it with large bolt holes drilled out. 3/8" maybe? The base of it has the word "CARB" with an arrow pointing to the lower outlet, but the lower outlet has no hole in it or anything, it's just a solid rod. I'm assuming it's some kind of vacuum device? Or fuel regulator or something? I'm curious because the old owner took to ripping things off the car he thought were "unecessary" trying to fix a heating issue. I'm curious if this is one of those things, that needs to be put back on - or just junk. Edit: underneath the blue cover is a spring with a screw on top, that you can push in but only a little bit. |

this could be a deceleration dash pot (?) used to slow down the drop in RPM on some cars that were prone to die when you let off the gas. my experience these were mainly used on manual transmissions but I have seen them on Automatics |

Being that your in CA , it is probably some sort of NOX Box vacuum delay device that CA made us install on our cars in the 1980's for smog. I believed it delayed the vacuum advance to the distributor. |

Thank you Dan. That's exactly what I'm looking at. Different color, but same part. It seems there was a benefit to having it and would not be that difficult to install, but I have a newer aftermarket carb so it probably wouldn't make a difference? |
