The blower motor on my '63 Dart Wagon still works, but is a tad tired: it's throaty and squeaky. I just had occasion to yank the heater box out to work on the heater core, and would like to either replace or rebuild this motor so it works like new. Pulled this small motor apart to examine the internals and it's a nice high-quality small DC motor. I can tell the heater in this car was used quite a bit for the wear on the commutator. It's quite worn and grooved which is probably a source of some of the throaty noises I'm hearing. I can tell there's some bearing play in the motor. Replace or rebuild? I see a lot of generic blower motors on eBay that honestly look like they're probably pretty junky compared to this Chrysler-made blower motor. I imagine I'd probably have to have a new commutator installed, maybe new brushes (though they still look like there's plenty to use), and probably a new front bearing sleeve in the motor. What do people think? I couldn't find a single NOS blower motor, though I have yet to check all the usual sources for NOS parts. |

See if you can find an electrical shop in the area that will rebuild it for you. May be better than a new one. Dave |
