To my ignorant eye, that looks like an original 1950's jalopy, home grown. I would think that anything pre-NHRA should be a collectible piece of Americana. Granted, the Slant is newer, but the rest looks early 1950"s. Please fill us in- what's the history of this project? P. :)

Actually, that's the look I'm leaning toward during the build. Sorry to say, it's not a 50's survivor, but is a late 60's-early 70's body tub. The closest my friends and I have come to identifying it is a Bird tub, perhaps with a Speedway or Total Performance short box on it. It was picked up (as a "kit") for a good price by a buddy some ten years ago, and I've been stashing parts for it for the last 4 or 5 years. We have no idea how many owners it's had, but it certainly looks like it never got completely built, due to horrible mistakes that were made.
We've had to correct mismatched parts in just the rear axle alone, and solved that by getting a completely different rear, and found that there were some bad geometry problems in the front end, too.

Ultimately, I'd like to get toward the 20's-30's boattail speedster look, but don't really know if I'll get there. (after all, is a hot rod ever really "done"?) Right now, we're just trying to get it built so that I can get it titled.

Well, maybe, but what I'd really like is a reversed BMW Isetta body, with an open-bay, Hilborn-injected slant a'la early-mid 60's altered gasser.

(That would be exceedingly 8) )

She's got eyes! Added over this last weekend.

and a bonus. This is the major part of a cargo trailer I'm building to pull behind the T. Started with an old David Bradley, tractor-mounted sprayer tank, (approx. 80 gallons). Cut out a bottom-hinged door at one end that will face to the rear, and the forward-facing "dome" is made up of 1/4" steel wire with burlap epoxied on. I intend to have true independent suspension utilizing adjustable motorcycle shocks. That dome will also cover the spare tire and spindle, as well as a trailer-specific tool kit.

Much has happened since my last post, and I (sadly) have neglected to get pics or vids along the way.

I'm back to say; WOO-HOO!!! She made her first runs today, (three laps around the block), under her own power. (Without title, electrical system, windshield, exhaust, or even a kill switch.)

We did great on the steering and brakes, though. Stops and steers very well, and straight, too.

I'll have to get a couple pics tomorrow, to bring you all up to date on the appearance.

It sure is nice to have the work that's in it validated with sound and motion.

OH! We found out a little more on it's history. It is not an early Bird kit like we thought, but an early MAS piece that had it's original "console" hacked out and glassed over. The best part is that there is an outfit up in Minnesota that has aquired the old molds, and is now making them again. You can get the body tub, and interior insert for right about $435. I happened to stumble across them while wandering through the swap meet at Back to The Fifties this past June.

Shoot! Realized I never got updated pics to post.

Do have other news, though. I have a "date" with a DOT inspector on the 26th. Have to tow/trailer it to the local DOT garage, and he'll look over the paperwork to ensure none of the big pieces are stolen, as well as making sure all state-required equipment is in place and functioning. If he gets no heartburn, and is feeling generous, I get a state-issued VIN, and the paperwork for getting the title and plates.

Here's hoping I did it right enough......Roger

Update!! Had to reschedule the inspection for tomorrow, due to the possibility of bad road conditions last Wednesday. I do have some new pics, though.
