I've just got my GM HEI up and running. I have not yet put any miles on it. That will happen in the next few days. I've got a question to those that had already done the GM HEI conversion. Have you had any long term problems using the HEI ? burning out rotors ? caps etc ? Any ill effects ? I just want to be ready just incase. Thanks Guys |

We have at least 3 of them running right now and they have all been on the road for over 2 years. No problems with any of them. Of course a module could go bad, and I keep a cheap spare in the glove box just in case. But no problems yet. Rick |

How many GM cars have you heard of crapping out because their HEI failed? I would say they are pretty much bullet proof. Now if you are using a twenty five year old part found in a pick & pull perhaps that item may be approaching its design life, perhaps not. I don't recall reading any negative leanings on this site regarding their longevity and reliability. One should take care to construct a good heat sink when converting to GM HEI heat being its nemesis. |

What he said. I have had mine in since 2007 and have not had to replace it. When I first did the conversion i used a heat sink from a computer. I burned that module in no time, less then a week. Replaced the module and heat sink and haven't had any issues since. Havnt had mine on as long as some around here but going on a good couple years now running mine. Had one module fail, but it was an old one just to do the conversion. Key points: good heat sink, good ground, and good power supply... Use quality wires and connectors, wrap everything up nice, and for best results upgrade the coil to a low ohm/ high out-put unit at the same time. ![]() |

Currently I have been running hei on my year round daily driver 69 D100 for about 4 years with no issues. I did upgreade to the Accel unit just because it revs a bit higher than a stock hei unit. I did also run a hei unit on a Scamp with a mild 360 as a year round daily for about 7 years with no issues. |

I had an HEI module go bad,, new part, had about a month of service on it,, then engine would intermittantly miss then die when warm. The HEI module was exchanged under warranty,, has been fine since |
