I purchased some engine builder valves from E-bay item no 380919173128

I am also considering these 340 valve springs E-bay item no 390854240085 but I am thinking for a non high revving engine I may be wasting my money, that the stock valve springs will do just fine.

From what I have read a stiffer spring will put extra wear on valvetrain components and I am going for longevity with the engine. Not a racer.

What is your opinions on this?

Also can someone share with me how they test their existing valvesprings at home or is this something a machine shop can only do.

Recently D.I wrote within one of his posts about finding a couple of weak valvesprings on an engine/head he was working on and so Id like to also find the same potential problem if it is there.

Is it recomended to just change out to all new stock valvesprings when re-building an engine and if so are these springs still avail for a good price?

After all these years, stock slant six valve springs have probably lost some of their pressure. If you are installing a new/reground cam, I would suggest new springs. The OEM slant six springs were/are not available over the parts counter. Back in the day, if you ordered replacement valve springs from the dealer, or parts store, you would get small block 318 springs. These springs are slightly stiffer then the OEM slant six spring, and are fine for a stock or almost stock cam. The 340 spring is stiffer and has a damper. It is a great "all around" spring. I have been running them for years on all my engines. I have one engine with a mild Crane cam that I have been running since 1978, with the 340 springs, and have turned the engine 7,000 rpm when taking stupid pills. Also have these springs on a street engine, with the mildest Mopar performance cam.
The springs, on ebay, you referred to are a good deal.

Thanks Charlie, I will call Ted tonight and order a couple of sets of the 340 springs
