Post subject:  Ignition wiring for orange ecu box

My pertronix unit went out and I am broke. I do have a complete brand new ignition system dizzy harness and orange ecu box. My harness is a five pin but my box is 4 pin . My question is how should I wire it , use the 5 pin or the 4 pin wiring diagram. Also I currently am not running a ballist resister . From what I can see the resister the cam with the kit is for the 4 .

Post subject:  You can...

Just wire it as a 4 pin system and go from there, unless you think you'll be swapping in an old OEM 5 pin box from a junkyard...

You can swap the springs and vacuum pod from the points to the ei dist.

The problem there is the EI distributor might have a 9R governor and his points distributor might be a 13 or and 11.5 governor making things a little tough for the respring and limiting the curve...also points needs to have a stronger set of spring in it to keep the quick advance from causing points float on a few cylinders at once making the springs a little sluggish compared to the nice slotted loop arrangement the EI distributor has...

Also the points vacuum pod has a different arm configuration than the EI advance pods, these tend to arc in a different path during advance, when used on EI distributors and can pull your gap out of alignment enough to cause a no spark condition (typically the points vac.. pod is a 6.5X vs. say the most base EI advance of 8.5x...so who wants less highway mileage?)
