Post subject:  Burned Up Engine Harness

My Sons 65 Barracuda engine harness totally burned up. I see that Year One and Laysons has them for about $200. Do you know anyone else I can contact? It's too for gone to patch up. I'm waiting for Wildcat to call me back. Still, That would be just as old as the one that burned up.

Have you thought of redoing the harness yourself?
I did my 86 Ram entire harness front to back few years ago.
Biggest help would be a factory service manual http://www.autobooksbishko.com/search.c ... hop+Manual for wire schematics.
Terminals found here http://pcsconnectors.com/packard56.aspx I beleive they were Packard terminals I know my 67 Dart was.

Engine harness is rather easy to home build. The exception is the factory color of oil pressure switch, coolant and brake fault switch 90 degree push on terminals (these few conductors and special terminals can be had from Evens). The rest of it is just various gage common color wire with previously mentioned Packard terminals.

#56 Packard terminals can be purchased in bulk from Ron Francis under (wiring aids listed on left side of site) look for BM 100 & FM 100 under terminals, and check out Housings and Connectors for factory housings.

Why did it burn up? Have you found the cause yet? I would hate to see you put a new one in only to have it burn up too. One common cause is a screw into the turn signal switch wires through the steering column. They are hot all the time for the flashers to work. Usually someone has replaced the fusible link with plain wire when an entire harness burns.
