Came out of my house the other day and discovered the hood up on my '62 Savoy. In the middle of the night thieves had made off with the carb and chopped up fuel line etc. Thankfully they left the air cleaner and intake manifold.

Bummer for me is that I bought the car as-is.. with the Super Six already retrofitted, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm dealing with to fix this mess. I've had the car for a few years but have never had to do any work on the carb- it's always run perfectly.

Any thoughts here - anything obviously missing OTHER than the carb itself? (I'm thinking linkage that's specific to making a Super Six work with the earlier car, etc). I know there are several options for carbs- any recommendations, and will all of them fit with the 'Super Six' air cleaner?

Any advice is a help-- thanks!

Having a real hard time seeing in the pic so I gotta ask, Is it an auto or manual?

Fromwhat I can see, you need a new accel cable, a new carb, and the fuel line. If its auto, which it kinda looks to be, your going to need the kickdown linkages it looks like....

Really sorry for your luck buddy and hope it all turns out good and maybe catch the jerks that did it!

Good question- it is a three speed, not an automatic. -- and I'll be stoked if I just have to replace the carb, fuel line and accelerator cable. That's what I was hoping, but didn't want to assume...

Looks like you need a choke thermostat, fuel line, new throttle cable, and new carb. Throttle cable will probably be the hardest to find.

While I am sorry you have to buy a new carb, this is the perfect opportunity to do the fuel line mod and to install the improved design all electric CarbsOnly choke thermostat.

I would also install either an inside relese hood latch or hood locks. Damn thieves.

I put a chain in the same day the carb was stolen- didn't want them coming back for more.

I love that kind of road trip, and I especially love the COlumbia Gorge! Did you hike to the top of Multnomah Falls? I have,twice. Where did you find the big Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox statutes? Where was that Bigfoot museum?

Paul Bunyan and Babe were at Trees of Mystery in Klamath, CA and the Bigfoot museum was in a tiny town called Willow Creek, CA. We didn't do the full hike to Multnomah Falls - we were a little bit time crunched so there was a lot of 'drive-by' sightseeing.

Nice. Eastern Washington is a great place to find rust free classic cars.

I have a few BBDs hanging on the wall in my garage. I have to check and see if any are slant six carbs and what condition the throttle shafts are in.

Any advice on the carb below? Will it work appropriately in this application? I'm shooting a little blind here- pretty sad considering I rebuilt the Slant in my '62 wagon. But I'm just not that familiar with this later stuff...

That carb is the same that I ran on my Duster with a 3 on the tree. But depending what it cost you could get one from pick in pull off a truck or van, 318 will work . Then just rebuild it.

I know it's not that bad, all things considered... but still just lame since it was totally unnecessary. And, I usually do a lot of work on my cars, but this one really hasn't required much. Did some brake work and a little rust repair a few years ago, and just rebuilt the shift linkage this winter... but never had to mess with the carb or engine at all.

Worst part is that I was just starting to detail the car to get ready to sell... I've had it almost five years and really enjoyed it, but I just have too many cars and not enough space or time...
