I am going to the J.Y this A.M ( cause they have two new slant trucks ) in hopes of finding a straight manifold. I have a few of them now and they are all to some degree warped or curled up at the ends.

Am I wasting time, is it a fact that any slant with any significant amount of mileage going to have a warped manifold.

I am trying to find at least one good straight manifold to use on my own vehicle.

Some I have are worse than others but none are straight.

If you are really keen to get a perfect manifold keep an eye on eBay .... I picked up a nos item for around $100 from memory . We saw the last slant roll of the production line around 1970 so good used items in Australia are pretty scarce. You may have more luck in the USA by looking at some of the later model vehicles that were slant powered, maybe :?:

Yes this is what I find ( and have found ) more often. The trucks I come across are all 81 up, just wondering if I am chasing something that I am not going to find in a used manifold.

Maybe they will all warp and thats just what I am left with.

Any used Sl6 exhaust manifold will have some warping... it's a matter of how much.
This is one of the reasons behind making Dutra Duals... splitting the exhaust manifold makes it easier to "fit" and seal to the engine... even if there is some warping.

The most likely source for a perectly flat manifold is NOS or a chinese repop. Otherwise get a "longboard' sanding block & a straightedge then go to town on the best one you have. I have had to "flatten" every /6 exhaust manifold I've worked on, to some degree. It also really helps if you have a friendly machine shop with a BIG belt sander.

I was referring to the outer runners curling up compared to the center, not concerned with how they will sit against the head since I have already planned on having that machined flat anyway. Thanks though

Pulled two this A.M and one of them was very nice and relatively straight still, not sure how this engine managed that as I have never before felt such a drastic ridge at the top of the cylinder bore suggesting alot of mileage.

The other was junk, several cracks.

Trying to keep somewhat of a stock appearance so trying to stay clear of headers. Thanks though

They also sound great with loooong y-pipe after them mixed with a wild performance cam. Just today at traffic lights a guy from a family sedan asked me if I have headers. "No, just this is straight six with cast iron manifold". Then came green...
