Post subject: | loose 3 on the tree shifting lever |
I have posted this elsewhere and I'm just trying to get as much info as I can. my 65 valiant /6 3 on the tree lever is extremely loose. it has a tendency to fall out of 1st when I just put the clutch in...yeah pretty loose. I was just asking around to see if there were any tricks or tips I could use to check out what might be the cause. I was told to use wavy washers on the linkage all below, but I think it might be in the column itself. I'm gonna take the wheel off and see what I can see. What should I be looking for in there? thnx |

There is bushing adjustment at the base of the column, in the engine compartment. Look for the screws in angled slots, above where the lever arms stick-out. Loosen those screws and rotate the bushing clock-wise, to take-up any free-play. Many times the bushings are worn beyond the tolerances... if so, this adjustment will not help much. DD |

Post subject: | 3 on the tree |
Its been a long time since I looked at mine but when my 3 on the tree was loose I took some automatic transmission linkage bushings from the Cadillac dealership I worked at and cut them down and used those to take up the slack. |
