I've read in DD's exhaust manifold posts that the exhaust manifolds can warp and one measurement is if you run a straight edge on the bottom of the exhaust ports of the manifold and they are misaligned by more than 1/8 inch or so, it might be too warped to use. That is, the one on the end is often higher than the rest due to warping. If it's too far out of alignment you might have a problem using it.

I'll let the experts chime in though.

Did you use it before or is this the first time assembling with this manifold?

You can adjust some of the vertical alignment by grinding/angling the mating surfaces where the manifolds bolt together. An alternative to grinding is using Remflex gasket as it has a lot of crush and you can get the same adjustment of the manifold to manifold surfaces by crushing the soft gasket non-uniformly to get the manifold ports to align better.

We're not talking about the surfaces warping, the whole manifold front to back warps. I once had a manifold that once removed from the head couldn't go back on because of this. You can try enlarging the holes if there is enough meat. If it does go back on the ports will be misaligned but at least limp you home.

What your describing Jose is what happens when a manifold warps. You'll be able to get one end on the stud but not the other. Sorry to break it to you but you probably invested time/money into a manifold that should have been retired.

To be clear, what Pierre is describing is the vertical alignment. Even if the surfaces that mate with the head are aligned, the manifold can warp vertically, i.e. vertical alignment of the ports onto the head. These manifolds are long, so they can warp quite a bit from one end to the other. It is common for the ends to warp up or down relative to the other port alignments. Mine is off a bit, but it makes it OK, and it's a Dutra Dual, so I'm not having to align the entire exhaust manifold, just the rear three.
