when looking at the rear main seal / oil pan gasket instructions

the photo of the rear main seal carrier is described as showing the carrier with the side that goes out board showing,, I agree with that, but it looks like the seal is in reversed, I am seeing the internal lip that should go in board,,anyone agree with that?

I can't tell from that pic's resolution whether the seal lip is in or out. But yes, the "lip" should face in. Also realize that for some seal manufacturers, the seal profile looks less like a "lip", & more like a wedge or lopsided triangle. For those the short side of the wedge is the inside of the "lip", & the long side is towards the outside (always check instructions from the gasket set to confirm!)
