I have a 1963 Valiant with a dead 170. Can I replace it with a V8, and still keep my push button 904 transmission? What is needed if possible?
Thanks

You will need to replace the transmission for a 64 push button 904 made for a 273 V-8.
A 65 V-8 904 will also work if you swap-in the 64 valve body.

Why not keep the slant? It'll basically drop right in with little to no mods (depending on what year slant you find). A LA V8 will fit but you open a big can of worms to make it work: a 65/66 V8 center link, 64-66 exhaust manifolds, upgraded rear (8.25 or 8.75) because that little 7.25 you have now will eventually fail, upgraded radiator because that itty-bitty stock size radiator is not gonna keep a V8 cool, upgraded brakes to stop, transmission as Dr Dodge mentioned just to name a few. Don't forget to mod the firewall for distributor clearance as well! Good luck with the swap

I say replace it with a 225 if you are looking for a power upgrade.
