Brand new to the site and have some questions. I did try a search, but I didn't find what I needed, although I'm sure it's there. I have a 1963 Valiant that came with the 170 and push button transmission. I blew the engine up. I then picked up a 225 from a newer, I'm guessing 1968 or newer, Dart, with AT. I would like to swap them, but I'm running into a few issues. I dented, pretty bad, the 225 oil pan. I was going to swap out the 170 pan, but they're different. Will they swap, even though they look different? And do I need the other pickup as well? I also noticed the flex plate from the 170 has a smaller ID. I've found that I need to replace the flex plate with the larger ID, and may need to buy the crank spacer. I also understand that there will probably be an exhaust issue with the manifold being higher now with the taller head. Am I close, and what else am I going to need to know? Thanks,
Taz

I'm not fluent in pre 67 A Body, but I believe the earlier renditions require a different oil pan from the wide body-67 and newer cars.

That is not all you will find different; a 1968 and newer engine has a larger center hole at end of crank shaft facing transmission that will require a reducing bushing to adapt to your early transmission. Someone here probably has one available that you can purchase, or they will tell you where to get one.

Also the block of a 225 is one inch taller than a 170 and may require some finagling of your existing exhaust down pipe to make a good connection to exhaust manifold.

Others may have helpful tips for this conversion to share.

sounds like you have a good handle on the issues-- also the throttle rod linkage will need to be lengthened a bit at the firewall.

you will be glad you swapped a 225 in, Lawrence

Good point. I'm a throttle and kick-down cable using guy, and forget that these cars all had Rube Goldberg rod set-ups...
