Post subject:  What do you guys think of this cam?

I just recently bought from a slant 6 acquaintance the Oregon Cam 346 cam. With the paperwork I got with it, lobe separation is 106, intake centerline 102, exhaust 110, lift at .050 is 234 228.

I would like to use it in a 65 block I have that has been decked 90 thou and bored 30 over, the head cut 10 thou and engbldr oversize valves/V8 springs installed. I've got both a FelPro head gasket as well as a stock steel head gasket. I have both a NOS EI distributor and a re-curved EI distributor from DusterIdiot to use. I will be using a 65 833 behind the slant and an 8.75 with either 3.23s or 2.94s out back. The car is a 65 Dart wagon. I would be breaking the motor in using a Super Six with a brand new carb from SlantSixDan and then swapping to a set of triple SU's or triple Webers after motor is broken in.

So . . . With what's already been done to the engine, will the Oregon 346 cam be OK to use or maybe something else - the Erson 280/270 for example.

Either one of those cams will work well with that combo. The 280/270 will give a bit more lower end, but they will be quite similar. You will be around 9:1 comp, and you have a stick, so the 346 should work quite well. I would degree that cam at 99-100. If you install it straight up and assume the timing chain is marked right, it should drop in at 102, which should work fine too but give slightly less lower end and slightly more mid/upper RPM power.

Happy building,

Lou
